Try these Time Saving, Spring Cleaning Hacks

Nurture Neglected Areas

spring cleaning tips

Vents, walls, and baseboards are often forgotten nooks and crannies where dust and grime collect. Use a vacuum extension hose to remove dust from vents and fans. Then wipe down baseboards with a damp cloth and spot clean walls with a mild detergent. Kitchen cabinets can accumulate a particularly gross amount of grease and grime. Wipe surfaces with a solution of warm water and a grease-cutting dish detergent.

Extra Time?

Thoroughly dust. Work from top to bottom. Remove books, DVDs, and décor from shelves, empty dishes and utensils from cabinets and drawers. Then wipe down all surfaces.

Freshen Fabrics

Soft surfaces like pillows and upholstery accumulate body oils, bacteria, and odors. Not to mention spills and dirt. Yuck! This spring cleaning hack will have you sitting pretty in no time! Spot clean non-washable materials with a color-safe stain remover. Vacuum all sides of upholstered furniture to remove dust and hair. Machine wash throw blankets and rugs according to the care directions.

Extra Time?

Clean mattresses. Remove bedding and sprinkle a layer of deodorizing baking soda over the entire mattress. Allow this to sit for 1-2 hours than vacuum the surface to remove baking soda and any accumulated dust and debris.

Wash Windows

spring cleaning tips

Opening the windows is the fastest way to ignite spring fever, but you’ll quickly see that winter has wreaked havoc. Wash windows inside and out. Choose a cleaning formula developed specifically for glass such as Invisible Glass® that is free of streak-causing soaps, scents, and dyes. Clean windows wiping side-to-side and avoid circular motions that create a static charge and attract dust. Open windows and wipe down sills and tracks.

Extra Time?

Clean window treatments too. Take down draperies and curtains and machine wash according to the care tags. Wipe down blinds with a damp cloth. Do these steps before cleaning window glass.

Take Inventory

spring cleaning tips

Test and service smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Replace light bulbs. Edit medicine and beauty supplies removing expired or damaged items. Sort through junk drawers tossing any items that are no longer useful or working.

Extra Time?

Take a tour of your home creating a checklist of items you’d like to tackle in the future such as rooms to repaint, items to repair, or décor changes. This list can be a time saver when for prioritizing future projects.
